I mentioned this on my socials a copious amount of times over the last few days and i’ll say it again! My sisters home from Australia!! I have not seen her in a year and a half so as you can imagine, it was an emotional exchange of hugs and kisses and intro’s to new nieces. I am blessed to have two sisters who I am so close with. It still breaks my heart that she lives so far away, but she has built a great life for herself there now and is so happy. As she is only here for 5 days, I wanted us to have some quality sister time, in addition to hanging out with the babies. So we decided to go to London for the night and go out!
I live close to London, but not that close! Surrey, i feel, is a world away from London. The fast train gets me there in 35 mins, but still…if i want to go out, i’m always worrying if i am late for the train or if i’ll miss the last one! So we decided to stay in London for the night. And not to have to stress about getting home early! Can’t tell you the last time I had a night like that. We worked our way through a slew of beautiful Shoreditch bars, such as the Ace Hotel, Blixen, Cream Shoreditch and the ever electric Crown&Shuttle.
I wrote on my Instagram about what types of hotels I think are good for certain weekends. We wanted accommodation that was small and cosy, (we didn’t need anything lavish) was East and close to where we knew we would be going out.We ended up staying at Motel One ,which right around the corner from Tower Hill station and was a perfect location for us.
Very affordable and stylish (the hotel group describes itself as “a successful budget design hotel brand”) it was perfect for us. The rooms and the hotel in general was extremely clean (which I’m a stickler about!) and the staff, especially Adam at reception were so calm and friendly. I am noting calm because for some reason, i feel like a queen when hotel staff talk to me gently and respectfully. Who wouldn’t?
Evidently popular with Germans (being a German hotel group!), we felt like we were the only non Germans there which made me feel like I had nipped back to Munich for the morning!
What my sister and I also liked was the sporadic breakfast buffets around reception in the morning. Fresh pastries and the smell of good coffee was everywhere!!
We were in and out, but it was a perfect stay. I get asked about hotels in London all the time from my followers. I have my recommendations for luxurious stays and business meeting locations and now I have my top pick for budget friendly, aesthetically beautiful stay for a couples weekend, a European city hopper or somebody who just simply wants a staycation!
