The Girls Bedroom Reno!

Interior Design renovations Eimear Varian Barry

I know some of you know this already but we bought our first house last year after renting a few places. We are both self employed and incredibly proud of how we went from barely affording our rent to buying in the space of a few years. We saved the deposit 100% ourselves and every single day I am unbelievably grateful we were given the work opportunities to be able to manage it. I spent my whole bloody life being broke and we both knew that if we could ever afford it, our priority was buying a house for us and our 3 children.

Daniel is a builder by trade and has learned a copious amount since he was 15. Some days he comes in from work covered in shite (literally) from digging drains and another day he could come in covered in paint after painting a house. He’s brilliant at carpentry and I was WTF HOW DID YOU DO THAT?? when he whipped up the sofa a few weeks ago. With my love for interior and styling, we work well together when it comes to renovations.

The minute we got the keys, we knew that when we had the money and when Daniel could afford to take some time off, the first thing we would be doing is our girl’s room. Whatever about anything else, we wanted them to have a beautiful room, as soon as possible. There are still bits to do to the decor (I think there always will be!) but here are some pics of the process and what we used to achieve it!

So going back to when we first moved in, this was the room. Fantastic Services offered two hours of help from their removals team in exchange for social media coverage which was incredible. They unpacked everything in the kitchen, put up my bed in our room and also put up the girls bunk beds. LIFESAVERS. They were so fast, really lovely guys and took a load off our shoulders. My Dad was kind enough to come over for a few weeks to help. It was all very exciting! As you can see from the pics, there was a wall covering up an old fireplace and they knocked this down. We bought the beautiful Copper Blush from Dulux Trade for the windowsill, skirting board and the door. This was to match the “Setting Plaster” light pink colour which gifted from a collaboration with Farrow and Ball.

The flooring I purchased from Direct Wood Flooring and the colour is Siberian Spruce which you can find here on their site. I called them 4 times to change the colour (HOW ANNOYING MUST THAT HAVE BEEN LOL). I ordered a light grey first but then decided a warmer colour would be nicer.

The laminate is perfect for a kids room/ a family home because we drag stuff around the room and fire stuff on the floor (during tantrums) all the time. Haha! The texture looks and feels a bit rough (in a good way) ( I didn’t want something shiny and contemporary) Basically it looks and feels exactly like wood. I love it. The rest of it is currently stored under my bed as we are doing the whole house in it in the next few months! The hallway, living room, dining room. I am beyond excited to rip the old manky carpet up. Direct Wood Flooring have fantastic customer service and I would definitely deal with them again.
